The M 2385 harvester was marketed by Deutz Fahr between 1979 and 1988. One of its examples, acquired new in 1987, is still in operation with its owners, the brothers Michel and Rolland Boirin.
Special equipment
This combine harvester has the particularity of being equipped with an air-cooled engine. It is therefore necessary to ensure the good circulation of the latter to avoid engine failure. The machine is equipped, not with the Deutz F6 L 912 developing 104 hp present on the first versions, but with the F6 L 913 (123 hp). This power gain guarantees faster harvesting and better operator comfort.
When the machine was delivered, the Boirin brothers were pleasantly surprised to find a comfortable cabin equipped with an air conditioning system. This element had not, in fact, been requested by the owners when ordering.
No breakdowns or maintenance issues
Proof of its reliability, after 35 years of uninterrupted operation (approximately 2800 hours), this M 2385 has not suffered any major breakdown. Its sheet metal elements did not even have to be replaced. The interventions undergone were limited to routine maintenance and the replacement of wear parts (mainly small bearings and belts).
In terms of performance, the machine has a cutting width of 3.6 m and its beater reaches 103 cm. Last year, she mowed about fifty hectares of cereals. According to its owners, it will still participate fully in this year’s harvest.
