Commencement of Australia’s Inaugural Liebherr R 9300 Mining Excavator at Karlawinda Gold Mine

Liebherr-Australia has just supplied MACA, a loyal customer, with an R 9300 mining excavator for use at the Karlawinda gold project in Western Australia. This marks the first-ever commissioning of such an excavator in Australia.

Following a successful introduction that resulted in the sale of five excavators in Indonesia, the commissioning of the first R 9300 in Australia serves as another testament to the machine’s strong reputation, according to the OEM.

The mining excavator was put into service in late August at Karlawinda, located in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. MACA, a global contractor specializing in mining, construction, and process engineering, and owned by Thiess, expressed its enthusiasm about the addition of this machine to its expanding fleet of Liebherr excavators.

This new addition to the fleet joins the three existing Liebherr R 9200 excavators currently in operation at the site, which is owned by Capricorn Metals. MACA’s Liebherr fleet now boasts a total of over 20 excavators, further solidifying its commitment to using Liebherr equipment.

The selection of the R 9300 was based on multiple factors, including its ability to support the client’s production goals, its impressive fuel efficiency, advanced technology features like Liebherr’s Assistance Systems, and its overall operational effectiveness, according to Liebherr.

The assembly, testing, and commissioning of the R 9300 were efficiently accomplished by Liebherr-Australia in just four weeks. Ongoing support for both the machine and MACA will be provided by Liebherr’s branches in Perth and Newman, as well as by the manufacturing facility for Liebherr mining excavators located in Colmar, France.

The R 9300 was introduced to the worldwide mining market in June of this year. It represents the second generation of Liebherr Mining excavators and incorporates the latest advanced innovations from Liebherr Mining as standard features. In 2024, the R 9300 is set to replace the R 9250 as the 250-tonne mining excavator in Liebherr’s product lineup.
